Product Questions

  • LiveData PeriOp Manager is a suite of integrated perioperative software modules developed to automate and manage the patient’s journey through the surgical process. From proposing, requesting, and scheduling the surgery, to performing necessary preoperative preparation, to surgical check-in, through the surgery itself, and finally, to discharge, PeriOp Manager coordinates surgical facilities and teams to improve safety and productivity.

In the weeks leading up to surgery, information on the upcoming surgical case, including whether required preparatory tasks have been completed, is available to credentialed members of the surgical team. Real-time case and patient status information is displayed on wall-mounted displays throughout the perioperative area and is available to the surgical team on handheld devices and desktops using secure hospital networks.

LiveData PeriOp Manager Analytics gathers and organizes data from hospital "sources of truth" and PeriOp Manager into detailed reports and predictive AI that provide visibility into facilities' surgical processes from the highest summary levels down to individual providers and cases. Users can explore data on patient safety, long-term surgical planning, and day-of-surgery efficiency, broken out by service, operating room, case, CPT code, and individual provider to reveal patterns and associations that facilities can use to optimize throughput, utilization, efficiency, and patient safety.

LiveData PeriOp Manager consists of several different modules:

    • PLAN: PeriOp Planner – Enables facilities to schedule and track surgical cases through the preoperative period, assign surgical teams to cases, and ensure completion of key preoperative preparation.
    • COORDINATE: Day-of-surgery display boards
      • Patient FlowSurgery patient flow software displays patient status to preoperative and surgical teams for all ongoing cases throughout the surgical journey from check-in to check-out.
      • Family Waiting Board – Displays patient status to waiting loved ones throughout the surgical journey.
      • PreOp Board – Provides a dynamic operational view with checklist functionality of patient status through the preoperative process on the day of surgery.
      • OR-Dashboard with Active Time Out – Provides a continuously updated, real-time view of the surgical case from OR setup through the surgical procedure to OR clean.
      • OR-Schedule Board – Provides a real-time view of the day's surgical case load, adjusts surgery start and end times base case workflow management, and provides tools to manage OR and surgical team assignments on the fly.

ANALYZE: PeriOp Manager Analytics – Automatically collects and organizes detailed real-time data from Planner and Display Boards to enable clinicians and administrators to uncover, identify, and target opportunities to improve performance.

  • PeriOp Manager integrates with a hospital’s “sources of truth” (such as the EHR, scheduling systems, documentation systems, and certain medical devices) to acquire data about the patient, resources, and state of the workflow, and then makes that data actionable by presenting it in the right way at the right time to enable efficient preoperative and perioperative workflow completion, giving clinicians the info and coordination tools they need to ensure the best possible outcomes for the surgical patient.

Our customers include leading academic medical centers, community hospitals, Veterans Administration medical centers, Ambulatory Surgical Centers, and other private healthcare systems.

Sales Questions

  • PeriOp Manager is available as a subscription-based cloud offering (SaaS).  Pricing is based on the number of facilities and operating rooms will use PeriOp Manager.

LiveData employs a detailed yet efficient process that begins with system requirements gathering via a perioperative workflow assessment. This enables LiveData to configure the solution to the specific environment and needs of the customer. The process then moves into the configuration, test, and install phases. The process is finished with end-user testing and software acceptance and then moves into the facility and staff training phases in preparation for “Go-Live.”

  • Based on current customer successes and data, PeriOp Manager pays for itself in less than one year's time.

Although hospitals and surgical centers will usually achieve the best ROI and benefit most by implementing the entire LiveData PeriOp Manager product suite, a hospital can use the displays they believe best meet their current needs.

Technology Questions

  • LiveData RTI Server™ — Healthcare Edition is the technological foundation for all LiveData healthcare products. A real-time data integration engine, LiveData RTI unifies disparate systems—medical devices from diverse vendors, hospital information systems, EHRs, in-house applications and data structures—and delivers real-time data streams to visual applications like LiveData OR-Dashboard for synthesis and display.

LiveData RTI is designed for maximum flexibility, scalability, and reliability, using an object-oriented approach that leverages broad-based IT and industry-specific standards.

    Notice of Intended Use
LiveData, Inc. does not intend for LiveData RTI Server-Healthcare Edition to be used for active patient monitoring, controlling or altering the functions or parameters of any medical device, or any other purpose relating to data obtained directly or indirectly from a medical device other than the transfer, storage, and conversion of such data from one format to another in accordance with preset specifications.

  • LiveData supports a variety of industry standard protocols, interfaces and APIs.

LiveData communicates with EHRs, medical devices, and other health information systems using standards-based protocols where available, including technologies such as:

    • HL7 2.X
    • FHIR
    • XML, JSON, SQL. SOAP, SOA
    • Other industry-standard REST & web services

Our long experience with a variety of networking protocols gives us deep expertise in applying standards-based networking and inter-process communications to the medical area.

LiveData RTI has a rich scripting environment that facilitates easy integration with the APIs of all other applications. With secure, transparent access to key information systems, LiveData RTI alleviates the need for additional interface adaptors and does not disrupt the integrity of other systems, such as Cerner, Epic, Allscripts,  Draeger, McKesson, MEDITECH, Picis, and VistA.

Interfaces and Integration Questions

  • LiveData has developed an extensive library of interfaces to EHRs, hospital information, anesthesia record keepers (ARK), and medical device systems. The library also includes interfaces to supply chain management, authentication, and audio-visual systems—all the systems found in hospitals today. A sample of interfaces in LiveData’s library are listed in the answers below. Please contact LiveData for more details.

LiveData has been actively involved in initiatives dedicated to standardization of medical devices, including:

    • IHE PCD: IHE Patient Care Device
    • MD PnP:  Medical Device "Plug-and-Play" Interoperability Program

In the IHE Connectathon, LiveData successfully completed testing as the Device Observation Consumer in the IHE Device Enterprise Communication Profile, interoperating with a variety of vendors, including B.Braun, Draeger, GE, Philips, and Welch Allyn.

IHE links healthcare professionals and industry to improve the way computer systems in healthcare share information. IHE Patient Care Device (PCD) domain was formed in 2005 to address the integration of medical devices into the healthcare enterprise, from the point-of-care to the EHR, potentially resulting in significant improvements in patient safety and quality of care.

The CIMIT MD PnP Interoperability Program leads the evaluation and adoption of open standards and technology for medical device interoperability. Until this goal is met, LiveData works with MD PnP to provide intermediary solutions.

Implementation Questions

  • LiveData is configurable and able to model your OR workflow and the specific information requirements of your hospital. Configuring PeriOp Manager starts with a site survey that steps you through a detailed series of questions. The survey includes questions on your hospital’s perioperative surgery milestones, your surgical safety checklist, and status indicators in your operating room.

Implementation lasts from 90–120 days, depending on customer environment.

At various times during the implementation process, input is needed from the Perioperative Nursing, Surgical Staff, Anesthesia, the OR Manager, the OR Scheduler, Hospital IT, and Biomedical departments.

  • Training is delivered onsite, with a day of classroom instruction, and then 1–2  days of in-OR presence to help with questions.  Follow-up training on the use of our analytics package occurs after some data has been accrued by our system. Training is for Nursing, Surgeons, OR Managers, and Schedulers.

Users become proficient at use of PeriOp Manager within a week.

Each LiveData PeriOp Manager module is fully documented with a user's guide.
