Medical specialists are sharing knowledge with one another across the world through virtual tools. Video conferencing is already widely in operation; Harvard Medical School, for example, shares expertise with healthcare workers in remote Cambodian villages.
With advanced video and IT capabilities, the OR also becomes a virtual classroom. A surgeon in Boston demonstrates technique to surgeons in Buenos Aires; surgeons in Dallas perform before a team in Moscow.
The Wall of Knowledge takes the virtual OR one step further. With permission and web access, viewers not only see and hear a surgeon at work, but also observe the operation in context.
Remote viewers see all information on the patient and procedure as it appears on LiveData OR-Dashboard during surgery. Other information, such as PACS, pathology specimens, and lab reports, are also on display for the remote viewer.
