What is LiveData PeriOp Manager?

LiveData PeriOp Manager is a suite of integrated software modules developed to automate and manage the patient’s journey through their day of surgery. From checking-in for surgery to discharge, PeriOp Manager coordinates surgical teams to deliver predictable outcomes. Real-time case and patient status information is displayed on wall-mounted screens throughout the perioperative area and is also available to the surgical team on tablets and desktops using secure hospital networks.

How does PeriOp Manager work?

PeriOp Manager integrates with a hospital’s “sources of truth” (e.g. EMR, scheduling systems, documentation systems, and certain medical devices) to acquire data about the patient, resources, and state of the workflow, then PeriOp Manager makes that data actionable by presenting it in the right way at the right time to enable efficient perioperative workflow completion while at the same time ensuring the best possible outcomes for the surgical patient.

Is patient status available to family members waiting for the patient?

LiveData Family Waiting Board tracks the patient’s progress from check-in to check-out on a large screen monitor in the family waiting room. Patient names are not displayed on the board for HIPAA (patient privacy) reasons. Family members are given a patient number to track.

What is the process for implementing a LiveData solution?

There is a detailed process that begins with system requirements gathering via a perioperative workflow assessment. This enables LiveData to configure the solution to the specific environment and needs of the customer. The process then moves into the configuration, test, and install phases. The process is finished with end-user testing and software acceptance and then moves into the facility and staff training phases in preparation for “Go-Live.”

Do I have to buy all the modules?

No.  A hospital can purchase the modules they believe best meet their current needs.

What is LiveData Real-Time Integration (RTI) Server-Healthcare Edition?

LiveData RTI Server™- Healthcare Edition is the technological foundation for all LiveData healthcare products. A real-time data integration engine, LiveData RTI unifies disparate systems – medical devices from diverse vendors, hospital information systems, EMRs, in-house applications and data structures –and delivers real-time data streams to visual applications like LiveData OR-Dashboard for synthesis and display.

LiveData RTI is designed for maximum flexibility, scalability, and reliability, using an object-oriented approach that leverages broad-based IT and industry-specific standards.

LiveData, Inc. does not intend for LiveData RTI Server-Healthcare Edition to be used for active patient monitoring, controlling or altering the functions or parameters of any medical device, or any other purpose relating to data obtained directly or indirectly from a medical device other than the transfer, storage, and conversion of such data from one format to another in accordance with preset specifications.

Which technology protocols does LiveData communicate with?

LiveData communicates with medical devices and health information systems using standards-based protocols where available, including technologies such as:

Does LiveData work with other APIs?

LiveData RTI has a rich scripting environment that facilitates easy integration with the APIs of all other applications. With secure, transparent access to key information systems, LiveData RTI alleviates the need for additional interface adaptors and does not disrupt the integrity of other systems, such as Cerner, Eclipsys, Epic, McKesson, MEDITECH, Picis, and VistA.

What software platform is required to run LiveData PeriOp Manager?

PeriOp Manager requires Windows 2012 R2 Server or greater, Windows 7 or greater for client side, and IE 11 or greater (or Chrome v4* or greater).

Which third party medical devices and systems interface with LiveData?

LiveData has developed an extensive library of interfaces to EMRs, hospital information, anesthesia record keepers (ARK), and medical device systems. The library also includes interfaces to supply chain management, authentication, and audio-visual systems – to all systems found in hospitals today. Is LiveData involved in any medical interoperability initiatives?

LiveData is actively involved in initiatives dedicated to standardization of medical devices, including: 

  • IHE PCD: IHE Patient Care Device  
  • MD PnP:  Medical Device "Plug-and-Play" Interoperability Program

In the IHE Connectathon, LiveData successfully completed testing as the Device Observation Consumer in the IHE Device Enterprise Communication Profile, interoperating with a variety of vendors, including B.Braun, Draeger, GE, Philips, and Welch Allyn.

IHE links healthcare professionals and industry to improve the way computer systems in healthcare share information. IHE Patient Care Device (PCD) domain was formed in 2005 to address the integration of medical devices into the healthcare enterprise, from the point-of-care to the EHR, potentially resulting in significant improvements in patient safety and quality of care. 

The CIMIT MD PnP Interoperability Program leads the evaluation and adoption of open standards and technology for medical device interoperability. Until this goal is met, LiveData works with MD PnP to provide intermediary solutions.

Implementation Questions
Can we customize LiveData for our hospital?

LiveData is configurable and able to model your OR workflow and the specific information requirements of your hospital. Configuring PeriOp Manager starts with a site survey that steps you through a detailed series of questions. The survey includes questions on your hospital’s perioperative surgery milestones, your surgical safety checklist, and status indicators in your operating room.

How do you deliver training?

Training is delivered on-site, with a day of classroom instruction, then 1-2 days of in-OR presence to help with questions.  Follow-on training on the use of our analytics package occurs after some data has been accrued by our system.  Training is for Nursing, Surgeons, OR Managers, and Schedulers.

How long does it take to implement LiveData?

90 – 120 days, depending on customer environment.

How long does it take to become a proficient user?

Users become proficient at use of PeriOp Manager within a week.

Who and which departments need to be involved in implementation?

At various times during the implementation process, input is needed from Perioperative Nursing, Surgical Staff, Anesthesia, the OR Manager, the OR Scheduler, Hospital IT, and Biomedical.
