| Spring 2009 | | | In This Issue | | Message from the CEO I am really looking forward to exhibiting at HIMSS09—an ideal arena for meeting with you and demonstrating how, through integration, LiveData solutions revolutionize the safety, effectiveness and, efficiency of hospital processes like Surgical Time Out. With our partner KARL STORZ, with its peerless reputation for quality and strategic commitment to IT innovation, we are delivering on the promise of better healthcare through IT. At our booth, you can catch a preview of recent innovations, including LiveData OR-Dashboard with Active Time Out™, now going live at Johns Hopkins, and available for all OR-Dashboard customers later this spring. At the IHE Interoperability Showcase, you can see another OR-Dashboard innovation, LiveData OR-Notify™. With President Obama calling for dramatically improved healthcare interoperability, it’s crucial to demonstrate effective technology standards that can be deployed right now. LiveData, having tested successfully at the IHE 2009 Connectathon, is among those Showcase participants who have risen to the President's challenge. Jeffrey Robbins

| | Featured Topic: Newsfeeds from the Operating Room: LiveData OR-Notify™ Supporting Hospital Quality Initiatives with Standardized TechnologyBy John Hotchkiss, LiveData VP of Research & Development LiveData introduces OR-Notify, a tool for automatically gathering, formatting, and delivering notifications from the operating room throughout the hospital and beyond. OR-Notify seizes real-time information from OR-Dashboard and sends it directly to hospital professionals, wherever and whenever they want to receive it. Of key importance is that the information is sent via tools they are accustomed to using: VOIP phones, pagers, RSS feeds, email, or the hospital’s intranet. OR-Notify is a logical extension of LiveData OR-Dashboard, a system that is designed to make essential information on the patient and operation readily available to those who need it, when they need it, regardless of whether they are in the operating room. By assimilating and actively monitoring the perioperative workflow, the OR-Dashboard system can determine whether the correct activity is occurring when it should; and, if not, notify the appropriate staff member while there is still an opportunity to rectify the oversight. OR-Notify, therefore, allows hospitals to monitor hospital quality initiatives and respond to process failures before they create a problem for the patient and/or hospital. OR-Notify conveys messages ranging from summary information about overall quality goals, such as compliance with critical patient safety initiatives, to near real-time monitoring of operational elements such as turnover time and first case delays. Our recent success at the IHE 2009 Connectathon assures hospitals that OR-Notify will interoperate with leading industry providers of enterprise communication services and the patient care devices providing the underlying relevant information. A proving ground for medical device integration, the Connectathon brings together users and developers of healthcare IT systems to address interoperability issues that impact clinical care. LiveData's recent participation in the Connectathon reflects both our ongoing support of standard profile development by leading healthcare industry players and our commitment to providing hospitals with solutions like OR-Notify that can be deployed today. Read more… | Conference Update HIMSS09 Annual Conference: April 4–8 Visit LiveData at the IHE Interoperability Showcase (Booth #7750) to see OR-Dashboard in action, along with its latest extension for relaying OR newsfeeds, OR-Notify. LiveData will play a central role in the OR tour area, and also demonstrate sending alarms from medical devices to a wireless Polycom phone in the Step Down unit. Visit LiveData Booth #538 to learn about building the ultimate Wall of Knowledge—the Patient-Aware OR™, which combines LiveData OR-Dashboard with KARL STORZ OR1® integration. Visitors will also get a preview of the new OR-Dashboard with Active Time Out, ensuring safe, fully compliant, and easy to perform Time Outs. For IT professionals, CEO/CTO Jeff Robbins will be available to speak about our Microsoft Silverlight implementation. Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform, and cross-device plug-in for delivering the next generation of .NET based media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web. LiveData OR-Dashboard delivered on Silverlight enables hospital IT professionals to easily customize and extend OR-Dashboard. LiveData will also be featured in Global Care Quest Booth #4663. KARL STORZ’s recent acquisition of GCQ, a hospital-wide and handheld medical information provider, expands their range of innovative solutions for the OR. SAGES Annual Meeting: April 22-25 KARL STORZ Booth #721 will provide information to visitors interested in learning about LiveData OR-Dashboard and the Patient-Aware OR, designed to promote best safety practices. | LiveData Milestones New Installations St Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor, has deployed LiveData OR-Dashboard in 5 of 18 operating rooms, ending phase one of the broader rollout scheduled for completion over the next few months. The hospital is the first to implement LiveData’s innovative tool for SCIP compliance. St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, a 529-bed teaching hospital that is part of the Trinity Health network, has been named as a US News and World Report Top 100 Hospital. The Johns Hopkins Hospital is deploying LiveData OR-Dashboard on April 2. As a KARL STORZ Center of Excellence, the hospital fosters and facilitates the company’s advances in technologies that improve patient safety.
Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, the newest hospital in the US, is the first to implement the KARL STORZ Patient-Aware OR, at the heart of its patient safety program. With its advances in team communication and improvement in workflow, the Patient-Aware OR represents the ultimate Wall of Knowledge, enabling the hospital to take patient safety to a new level. New OR-Dashboard Features LiveData now offers hospitals OR-Notify, for delivering real-time OR-Dashboard information to the people who need it when they need it, throughout the hospital and beyond its walls, via tools they are accustomed to using: VOIP phones, pagers, internal hospital streaming RSS feeds, emails, dynamic web-pages, or the hospital's intranet. LiveData is implementing Microsoft Silverlight for OR-Dashboard. Silverlight provides a sophisticated level of flexibility, enabling hospital IT departments to configure OR-Dashboard’s user interface to meet individual hospital requirements. In conjunction with Karl Storz A/V integration, Silverlight allows a single LiveData OR-Dashboard display to show both data and video in context, enabling surgeons to check in on their ORs remotely. Advances in Standardizing Technology LiveData OR-Dashboard participated in the IHE North American Connectathon, successfully testing two new profiles with other systems and devices in the Patient Care Devices domain: Alarm Management (AM) and Alarm Reporting (AR). Those supported from last year, Device Observation Consumer (DOC) and Device Observation Filter/Subscribe to Patient Data (DOF/SPD), also tested successfully. As follow up to the Connectathon, LiveData OR-Dashboard will play a central role in the OR tour area of the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase and act as alarm manager for the Step Down unit. |
