Joint Commission and National Patient Safety Goals Update for 2009

An all day session will provide an update regarding changes to the Joint Commission standards and National Patient Safety Goals that affect perioperative services and professionals. The changes being brought about to the survey process and the Joint Commission accreditation standards by the Standards Improvement Initiative (SII) will also be targeted, as will the “opportunities for improvement” presented to perioperative professionals during a Joint Commission accreditation survey. A “New” Twist on Pay-for-Performance: “Never Events” and CMS Quality Measures
This session will provide an overview of the current pay-forperformance (P4P) and transparency climate in the United States and will include a discussion of P4P trends, key policy issues, “never events,” CMS quality measures, and challenges for implementing P4P. The quality and effi ciency derived from P4P also will be reviewed, along with the impact P4P will have on perioperative services and professionals.

PNDS Primer Workshop

Connecting PNDS to Acreditation 

The PNDS is a perioperative-focused nursing language that incorporates SCIP measures, Joint Comission standards, and National Patient Safety Goals to help drive clinical patient outcomes. The PNDS, the only standardized nursing vocabulary that addresses the perioperative patient experience, can be integrated into perioperative electronic documentation systems.
