LiveData Supports New IHE Integration Profile Demonstrating at HIMSS Interoperability Showcase
Publish-and-Subscribe Model Extends Patient Care Devices Framework
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Feb. 24, 2008 -- LiveData [www.LiveData.com] today announced its support for the Integrated Healthcare Enterprise Patient Care Devices (IHE PCD) profile, PCD-02. This “publish and subscribe” profile extends the IHE PCD technical framework to enable systems to specify data they wish to publish to or receive from other systems – such as information from particular patients, locations and devices. Industry-wide adoption of IHE PCD technical framework will enable vendors to exchange data across diverse information systems and medical devices, utilizing a well-defined set of standard transactions. The new “Subscribe to Patient Data” feature in the PCD-02 standard will significantly reduce network traffic, and simplify the task of creating rich, data-driven displays of information for healthcare providers.
LiveData is demonstrating its support of PCD-02 at the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase, a spotlight element of the annual conference of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society starting today at the Orange County (Florida) Convention Center in Orlando. The demonstration shows how LiveData OR-Dashboard can subscribe to information from an infusion management system.
LiveData is also participating in the Patient Care Device Domain (PCD) main demonstration. This illustrates how, as a patient progresses from the Emergency Department to the OR, and on to the ICU, vital information flows to LiveData OR-Dashboard, so that the entire OR team can see precisely the information they need about the patient and the surgical case. The demonstration includes real-time data capture and display of information from a number of medical devices, including anesthesia monitors, physiological monitors, infusion pumps, and vital sign monitors.
PCD is one of the newest areas in IHE, supporting the integration of patient data from medical devices to clinical and enterprise systems. Medical devices can provide large amounts of data to the medical record, but existing processes for entering that information are time consuming, frustrating and error prone. Members of the PCD, co-sponsored by ACCE and HIMSS, collaborate to define needs, establish priorities, and develop interoperable communication processes leading to commercial device and system implementations.
The Interoperability Showcase is the nation’s premier forum highlighting the IHE common framework for delivering interoperability across local, regional, and national health information exchanges. It features cutting-edge technology and standards in an interactive environment using clinical scenarios that simulate how health information is seamlessly passed among care providers. The showcase comprises more than 50 participants, from leading vendors to implementers to healthcare and standards organizations.
The showcase also features multiple theaters that deliver education, success stories, and information on the national initiatives surrounding interoperability. The HIMSS conference runs through Feb. 28. About LiveData
Specializing in real-time data integration and display, LiveData builds state-of-the-art systems for healthcare, utility, manufacturing, and government organizations. LiveData RTI [Real-Time Integration] technology brings together data from any number of sources and presents it as meaningful information on easy-to-read graphic displays. Leading medical institutions, including Massachusetts General Hospital, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, have selected LiveData OR-Dashboard to enhance patient safety, improve team communication and streamline perioperative workflow. Founded in 1991, LiveData is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts. For more information, visit www.livedata.com. *******************************
