Software LiveData lands SBIR grant to consolidate data in the OR
Cambridge-based LiveData Inc., received a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command with the goal of implementing a patient zone of safety within the operating room environment. A perioperative zone of safety was part of the original plan of the Operating Room of the Future at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). The LiveData team will be working with the Operating Room of the Future to build a computer-based LiveData Patient Safety System. One of the goals of the Operating Room of the Future is to bring together novel technologies in a live surgical environment and measure the impact on patient care, cost and efficiency. The proposed interactive PC-based LiveData Patient Safety System will integrate patient data from different sources - including physiological monitors, anesthesia equipment and patient record systems - into a single view of the patient's status. "One of the challenges in medicine today is how to get all of the different systems in a hospital to cooperate electronically. Cooperation between systems is exactly what our software does. We can ensure that all relevant information about a patient is available through the perioperative process, even when that information is physically obtained in different places within the hospital, by different specialists," said Jeffrey S. Robbins, president of LiveData, in a statement. |
