LiveData's OR-Dashboard Integrates Tourniquet Data From InstruMed SmartPump

Companies to Demonstrate Ground-Breaking Collaboration at AORN Congress

March 13, 2006

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- LiveData today announced that its OR-Dashboard will integrate and display real-time data from the InstruMed SmartPump tourniquet. Through this first-of-a-kind collaboration, LiveData and InstruMed will present tourniquet information alongside other real-time patient information on a large-screen display in the OR. This visual integration helps OR teams use tourniquets more effectively, and catch potentially adverse patient reactions to drugs, procedures or other influences early.

The two companies will demonstrate real-time visual integration in InstruMed's exhibit #3451 during the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurse Congress, March 19-23 in Washington, D.C.

The LiveData OR-Dashboard gathers key patient information from diverse systems, physiological monitors, and medical devices, and presents all this information visually on a large-screen display. Consulted throughout the surgical process, LiveData OR-Dashboard enables surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists and other OR professionals to see at a glance the patient's status, physiological trends, and other information that is relevant at that moment in their care.

The InstruMed SmartPump continuously monitors and controls tourniquet pressure, and records how long the tourniquet has been in place. LiveData captures this streaming data and presents it visually on the OR-Dashboard. The entire OR team can see key tourniquet metrics in the context of other physiological trends, including blood pressure, pulse, and oxygenation. All of this data is time synchronized and can be archived, incorporated with the patient's electronic medical record, and recalled for analysis or staff training.

"Traditional tourniquet systems have become isolated within today's OR environment," stated Michael E. Hovanes, InstruMed's CEO. "As an intraoperative device, we designed the SmartPump with connectivity, enabling it to deliver real-time data and reports. LiveData's technology elevates the value of connectivity to a new level. Now the OR team has a communication tool that truly enhances tourniquet use and patient safety. Our collaboration with LiveData is reshaping our view of product integration."

"Our collaboration illustrates the classic need to visually integrate information in the OR," said Jeff Robbins, LiveData's CEO. "Until now, there was no way for the OR team to easily monitor and visually correlate tourniquet and patient physiological data. Now, on one context-rich display, the OR team can monitor the whole patient, spot potential problems, and ensure that safety procedures are followed. We see tremendous potential for our work with InstruMed."
